The Student Governing Board (SGB).

The IS Student Governing Board is committed to facilitating communication between students and faculty in the Department of Information Studies at UCLA. The group also plans department-wide events, organizes the process for selection of a graduation speaker, and co-ordinates funding for IS Student Groups.

The Special Libraries Association (SLA).

The SLA Student Chapter of the UCLA Department of Information Studies aims to inform students of issues and opportunities in special librarianship, to promote the social and professional growth of its members, and to facilitate participation in the Special Libraries Association.

Society of American Archivists student chapter at the University of California, Los Angeles is open to all students interested in any aspect of archival management and preservation ranging from traditional materials such as manuscripts, personal papers, and business records to electronic and digital media in all formats.

American Library Association (ALA).

ALA supports the Department of Information Studies, and the social, cultural, intellectual, and professional growth of its members. It facilitates and encourages participation in local, regional, and national chapters of the American Library Association. It encourages professional contacts within the field of librarianship both at UCLA and elsewhere, and actively promotes involvement in professional activities beyond the classroom.

Library & Archive OUTReach.

Library & Archive OUTReach is committed to serving the information needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) professional library and archival community at UCLA, and the LGBT information and access needs of UCLA students and individuals at large. We manage the Rae Lee Siporin LGBT Library, housed at UCLA's LGBT Campus Resource Center. The collection consists of over 4,000 books, journals and films/DVDs, and is searchable online through the UCLA Library Catalog. Members of OUTReach volunteer in the library and get hands on experience managing a collection.

ARTiFACTS provides UCLA students with the opportunity to explore information issues relating to collections of or about the visual and performing arts, and artifacts of material culture. The group also encourages/facilitates professional networking within the community.

Books Beyond Bars

Books Beyond Bars visits the Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Detention Center in Sylmar, California to deliver books and talk to incarcerated youth about books and reading. The Collective also organizes book drives to collect materials to bring to the living units.
